Whimsical Nursery – Home Trend Magazine

A professional couple with a young son and a baby on the way, the homeowners lived in a small two-bedroom condo in East Vancouver. They approached designer Lori Steves with the desire to spruce up the condo’s main living space, upgrade the bedrooms, and “find a room for the baby!”

The couple had considered housing the baby in their own bedroom or in their son’s room, but neither seemed feasible at the time. There were no windows in this space, so it was important to design it to be light and airy with reference to the outdoors.

The couple enjoys the whimsical touch, hence the wallpaper and ‘cloud’ lighting fixtures. A favorite feature of this room is the wallpaper that extends to the ceiling above the crib! With a small space, this extra splurge fits well into your budget. Using low-VOC recycled carpet tiles for your floors and using toys and clothes you already own as accessories can also help keep your budget reasonable.

Lori’s advice to parents designing nurseries is to not overspend. Providing a comfortable and enjoyable sensory experience is good, but not necessary. Keep it simple and don’t overdo it with bold patterns or rich bright colors.
