STORM WATCH: 20-35 cm of snow expected on major BC inland highways

A winter storm warning is in effect for major inland highways.

The Kokihara Highway and Okanagan Connector are affected by a warning issued around 5:00 am Tuesday.

Both highways are expected to have 20 to 35 centimeters of snow over the next 24 hours, creating dangerous driving conditions. Light snow will start during the day, with most of the snow falling overnight through Wednesday morning.

Winds are also expected to reach 60 km/h at the connector. Poor visibility also affects drivers.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for two highways, but there are currently no warnings in place for major inland cities, including Kelowna, Merritt, Penticton and Vernon.

The same cannot be said for the Eastern Fraser Valley, with snow warnings in place for Hope, Chilliwack and Abbotsford. 20-25 cm of snow is expected over the next 24 hours Tuesday through Wednesday evening. Winds in this area will be in the range of 40-70 km/h.

Environment Canada warns travelers to drive with caution and be prepared as conditions can change rapidly.
