‘This could have been fatal’: Transport truck wheel hits vehicle on Toronto’s Highway 401 – Toronto
Police say a man is “lucky to be alive” after a wheel came off a transport truck on Toronto’s Highway 401.
Ontario Police Sgt. Kelly Schmidt said the incident occurred along the westbound lane of the highway.
In a video posted to Twitter at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Schmidt said a wheel detached from the transport truck and hit the side of the vehicle.

Schmidt showed the vehicle, saying it was “completely ruined.”
“Fortunately, it only took sides,” said Schmidt.
The driver of the car (identified only as Mark) said he saw the wheel “at the last second” and changed lanes to avoid it.
“I moved just in time and it hit the side, not the windshield,” Mark said.
Schmidt called the incident “a pretty frightening situation”.
“Again, this is why we’re talking about making sure your car is safe on the road,” he said. If recently replaced due to work or seasonal tire changes, the wheel nuts should be checked to ensure they are properly torqued and tightened.
Schmidt said the incident “could have been fatal.”
He also urged transport truck drivers to complete daily checks to ensure their vehicles are safe on the road.
