Michael Morgan made history at the 49th Japan-China Emmy Awards! On Friday night in Los Angeles, California, the 35-year-old star of the global “The Young and the Restless” became the first black woman to win the category with the best lead performance in the drama series: Actress. I did.
“I’m very proud of this generation,” Morgan said in tears, accepting her award. “… I’m honored to be the best in my job, regardless of skin cover.”
Just days before her big win, ET told Morgan about the chances of a win and admitted that “thinking is very intense.”

The 49th Daytime Emmy Awards were broadcast live from the Pasadena Civic Center from 9 pm to 11 pm on Friday, June 24th. The ceremony is also available for live streaming and will be delivered on demand on Paramount +.
