OTTAWA — The Canadian federal government has announced new funding for two professional tournaments in Golf Canada.
Southern Ontario’s Federal Economic Development Agency said it is donating $4.4 million to national sports organizations.
Non-repayable investments will be allocated to the CP Women’s Open and RBC Canadian Open, National Women’s and Men’s Professional Championships respectively.
Both 2020 and 2021 tournaments have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finance Committee Chairman and Ottawa Vanier MP Mona Fortier said the investment will help the tournament come back “even stronger” and generate “significant financial gains”. .
The Canadian Open will be held in Toronto in early June, while the Women’s Open will be held in Ottawa this week.
The men’s championship is typically held in the Greater Toronto area, while the women’s event is held across Canada, with next year’s tournament scheduled to be held at Shawnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver.
