A “coordinated effort” by emergency responders saved the lives of workers trapped in collapsing trenches in Oakville late Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. at a “large new home” on Lakeshore Road West on Morden Road, just west of Dorval Drive.

According to Oakville Fire Chief Paul Boissonne, the man fell into the trench, which collapsed and was buried under several feet of dirt.

“Our personnel investigated the situation and recognized that the patient spoke, was consistent, and needed a special evacuation of the trench,” Oakville Fire Chief Paul Boissonneau told CP24 in a statement. rice field.

He then said he called the Mississauga Fire and Emergency Service’s technical trench rescue team for assistance, “precisely securing the ground around the patient and vacuum trucks assisting in removing the dirt,” he said.

The workers were pulled out of the trenches about three and a half hours after paramedics arrived on the scene and taken to a hospital by paramedics for observation.

Boissonne said the man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

“All the paramedics on site worked very well together and the patient was removed safely,” he said.
