Teens Arrested in Connection with Toronto Rapper Murder in 2020

A Brampton teenager has been arrested in connection with the murder of a famous Toronto rapper who was shot in Toronto’s Entertainment District more than two years ago.

On May 26, 2020, Toronto Police responded to reports of shootings that occurred in the King Street West and Blue Jays Way area around 4pm.

Shots erupted openly in broad daylight in an area that would normally be busy with lots of pedestrians during the day.

Witnesses reported hearing up to 10 gunshots before police arrived on the scene.

DiMaggio Jenkins, also known as rapper Houdini, was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Jenkins, 21, was pronounced dead in hospital shortly after.

A 15-year-old boy who was with Jenkins and allegedly returned fire was also injured in the shooting, as was a 27-year-old woman who police said was a bystander.

Police said Jenkins was likely targeted.

Two weeks later, at the rapper’s memorial service, shootings occurred in a parking lot on Beverly Hills Drive near Jane Street and Highway 401.

Police said the vehicle stopped at the memorial and gunmen emerged and opened fire on the crowd. Police said he was later shot at by at least five people who were attending a memorial service. Police said he fired more than 60 rounds from at least four different caliber guns in the incident.

Moments later, police said two people at the memorial were taken to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds.

Two suspects were arrested in the shooting, police said.

On August 13, Peel District Police announced an arrest in connection with Jenkins’ murder.

Police last week searched a vehicle near the facility on Mississauga’s Eglinton Avenue East and Dixie Road, police said.

There were two firearms in the vehicle, and the 19-year-old man who was in the vehicle was wanted on a nationwide warrant for firearm-related offenses related to the Jenkins case.

The Brampton teenager was a young man at the time Jenkins was killed and cannot be identified under the terms of the Youth and Criminal Justice Act.

He was arrested and taken into custody for a bail hearing.

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to contact police at 905-453-2121 extension 3515 or anonymously to CrimeStopper at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
