TC Energy, 3 Rivers Energy Partners, Canadian Business Journal to Develop Renewable Natural Gas Production Facility at Jack Daniel’s Distillery

CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — NEWS RELEASE — TC Energy Corporation (TSX, NYSE: TRP) (TC Energy or the Company) today announced the completion of its 2,930 announced a million dollar investment. Near Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Owned by Lynchburg Renewable Fuels LLC, the facility will produce RNG with a carbon intensity score 50% lower than conventional natural gas, saving up to 16,000 tons of CO2e per year. The project is being developed by 3 Rivers Energy Partners, LLC, which also owns Lynchburg Renewable Fuels.

When it begins operations in 2024, a by-product of Jack Daniel’s distillation process will be broken down to produce methane gas that will be recovered as biogas. The biogas upgrade plant removes contaminants to produce pipeline-quality he RNG and connects directly to local natural gas utilities. Liquid fertilizers are also manufactured, processed, stored and distributed to meet local agricultural demands.

“This investment is our first investment in the production of renewable natural gas. By producing RNG at our Jack Daniels distillery, TC Energy is meeting the challenges of increasing energy demand and reducing emissions. , we can provide our customers with access to affordable and reliable sources of energy.”

TC Energy will market 100% of the RNG production and environmental attributes, including renewable identification numbers and low carbon fuel standards.

John Rivers, CEO of 3 Rivers Energy Partners, said: “What we are doing is a big step forward for Jack Daniels, our local farms and the future of our planet.”

TC Energy and 3 Rivers Energy Partners are also working to jointly develop future RNG projects.

Since 2002, TC Energy has transported RNG with a current capacity of over 30 Bcf per year to the market via 17 interconnections across a pipeline footprint of thousands of miles. This investment will be the company’s first investment to produce his RNG.

The announcement builds on TC Energy’s ongoing development of an extensive low-carbon energy portfolio, most recently when the company began construction of an 81 MW solar facility in Alberta in October.
