A robbery occurred at a gas station in Abbotsford after a man brandished a large sword at an employee, police said.
Sergeant Abbotsford Police Department media officer Paul Walker said police responded to a robbery in progress at Block 32400 on South Fraser Way at 4:12 pm on September 26.
He said a man entered a gas station and began stealing items, wielding a sword at an employee who confronted him.
Walker said officers located and arrested the man within 12 minutes of calling police.
“Surprisingly, the clerk was very upset, but no one was hurt.
Abbotsford’s Jarred Whitham, 30, is currently charged with robbery, resisting a sheriff and violating probation. He remains in custody until his next court appearance on October 4.
“Our officers respond daily to shoplifting-related calls, often with suspects carrying weapons.These calls pose a risk to public safety within our community,” he said. Walker said.
“Many of these cases are repeat offenders who are continually being released into our community.”
Hoytham was also charged with trespassing, possession of stolen property, theft, resisting security forces, handling identification without legal excuses, and violating release, according to the British Columbia Provincial Court Database. I am in court. order.
All of the alleged violations occurred at Abbotsford and Mission in 2021 and 2022.
