The Royal Canadian Legion will host Canada’s 2022 National Remembrance Day Ceremony.Canadian Business Journal

OTTAWA, Nov. 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Royal Canadian Legion once again fully hosted Canada’s National War Memorial Celebration, despite a format change over the past two years due to pandemic restrictions.

Under bright skies and unusually hot temperatures for Ottawa, a solemn ceremony honored the men and women who gave their lives for Canada. A full veterans parade and traditional marching party, dignitaries, special guests, and crowds of thousands gathered around the National War Memorial to pay their respects.

A fly pass by a CF-18 Hornet aircraft and a second fly pass by Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire highlighted the ceremony. this is 80th It marks the anniversary of the Dieppe raid that killed 916 Canadians and about 200 Allied soldiers. The red flag at the foot of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier also honors those lost. A special wreath dedicated to Queen Elizabeth honors her service as a World War II veteran. God Save the King was sung this year at the annual gathering hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion.

Dominion President Bruce Julian said, “It’s the most sacred day of the year to remember the sacrifices of our veterans.” Their sacrifices led to our freedom. I hope you will take it.”

This year’s National Silver Cross Mother, Mrs. Candy Gref, laid a wreath on behalf of every military mother who lost a child for her country. Her son, Master Corporal Byron Gref, died in 2011 when his armored vehicle was run over by a car carrying a suicide bomber. He was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan at the time.

Members of the Viceroyal Party laid a wreath at the base of the National War Memorial. They included the Honorable Governor-General of Canada, Honorable Mary May Simon. Lawrence Macaulay, Canada’s Minister for Veterans Affairs, and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, wife of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will accompany him. Greg Peters, Blackrod’s usher, Paul Ledwell, Deputy Minister for Veterans Affairs, and General Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defense Staff. Bruce Julian, Dominion President of the Royal Canadian Legion, also joined the Viceroyalty and laid a wreath. Memorial-themed poster and literary contest artists Eugena Lee, Moon Leung, Rachel Graham and Aarika Hack together laid a wreath on behalf of Canadian youth. Representatives of other veterans’ organizations also paid tribute in this way.

As is tradition, many groups and individuals took the time to place poppies on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier after the official ceremony and covered it with poppy red.

On Remembrance Day night, 117,000 animated poppies (each representing Canada’s war dead) cascade down the Peace Tower of the Capitol once again, poppy drops appear in the Senate Building and the National Arts Center, and last night until midnight I will direct. .
