Tastely Box Hires ‘Chief Candy Officer’, The Canadian Business Journal

Peterborough, ON, Nov. 3, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Willy Wonka aside: A Canadian candy company called Tastely Box hires professional taste testers for salaries of up to $100,000 a year.

The high-profile role attracts widespread attention — a whimsical moment in the realm of stressful yet monotonous job listings.

The primary purpose of this role is to decide whether to approve the sale of candy and award the “CCO Approved Stamp”. This is all done at the company’s ‘Candy Intelligence Agency’.

Last week, the Peterborough, Ontario-based company posted a job listing for what it said was the world’s first candy chief executive. Selected applicants will be responsible for taste-testing about 3,500 products each month, running the board of directors, and approving new candy inventory with a “CCO stamp of approval,” according to a LinkedIn post.

This is a lot of candy. According to dietary guidelines published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Health and Human Services, about 113 servings per day is almost five times the recommended amount of sugar per day.

Thankfully, the listing states that selected applicants have “extensive dental insurance.”

Job requirements are minimal. Applicants must be at least 5 years old, reside in North America, and have a “distinct” love for sugar. For listings, parents can sign up for their children, and the CCO undergoes extensive taste training to qualify for “golden taste buds” before being commissioned to select inventory for her Tastely Box. It has been described as.

“Like the love of candy, job titles are ageless,” the list reads. “All you need is candy, pop culture, and a passion for sweet things.”

CCOs can work from home or face-to-face in Newark, NJ or Toronto, Canada. Unless you are under 18, you have the option of working a regular 40 hour week, in which case your position will be adjusted to your schedule.

Positions do not expire. If a 5-year-old is selected, she may retain her CCO title for life.

The job posting states that applicants must be “born leaders” and have “enthusiasm and enthusiasm to experiment with confectionery products.” Applicants do not necessarily need taste test experience to submit a resume and cover letter, but media interest is a bonus.

This media interest may have something to do with Tastely Box’s TikTok presence. With his 2 million followers on the company’s platform, his CCO ultimately gets a lot of exposure on social media. It looks like the company is currently hiring social media personalities who will pay up to $24 an hour.
