Statistics Canada sheds light on commuting habits and workforce dynamics

A new census released by Statistics Canada on Wednesday is expected to reveal how people got to work last year and what kind of jobs they were doing.

A notable development in Canada’s economy over the past year has been a tight labor market, with nearly one million vacancies still available across the country.

The Census release provides a snapshot of commuting habits for spring 2021. At the time, many were working from home due to his COVID-19 restrictions and workplace health and safety measures.

About 22% of employees were working from home in December 2021, according to a StatCan report released this summer.

New data on Wednesday also details Canadians’ level of education and their right to an education in a minority language.

It is the first time that the Bureau of Statistics has collected data on the number of children eligible for English education in Quebec and the number of children eligible for French education in other countries.

This report by the Canadian Press was first published on November 30, 2022.
