School Board Sovereignty in a United Alberta

In 2021, for purely political reasons, Jason Kenney declared Alberta an ‘o’ despite dire warnings from health experts.summer pen. As a result, Alberta had the dubious distinction of having the highest her COVID incidence per capita in North America, overwhelming the health care system.

Today, Alberta leads Canada in respiratory disease infections. Our major children’s hospitals are reaching or exceeding her 100% capacity, and medical professionals are re-emphasizing the importance of public masking and vaccination. Prime Minister Smith’s lukewarm response was to wave the familiar “freedom of choice” flag, pandering to the anti-vaccine, anti-mask fringe, and stripping school boards of their freedom to impose masking mandates.

Perhaps Alberta’s school boards should unite and demand the right to bypass UCP laws that they deem not in the best interest of students, staff, and educational purposes. They can call it educational sovereignty within the United Alberta Act. Will Mr. Smith understand?

Turn on your headlights when it gets dark

Winter is here again and we find ourselves commuting in the dark nights and mornings, often driving in difficult weather conditions. Every day, in these situations, I still see drivers using only dim daytime running lights, no tail lights or side marker lights. No doubt these drivers are unaware that their car’s automatic headlight feature is not turned on.

A simple mistake with potentially life-changing consequences. Make sure you fully understand your vehicle’s lighting operations before heading out.

There is a shortage of doctors in this country. To change this, we need to hire doctors from abroad. Is this ethical given that we bring in doctors who are needed in our country? We all need health care, no different than people in other countries.
