South Korea draw Uruguay to scoreless draw at World Cup

AL RAYYAN, Qatar (AP) — South Korea and Uruguay kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw on Thursday. This result is probably in favor of the Asian team.

The draw at Education City Stadium was yet another early World Cup match in which the favorite team stumbled. Argentina and Germany both lost their opening games in big upsets.

With forward Heung-min Son wearing a mask to protect a fractured left eye socket, South Korea always looked like a team likely to score against the experienced Uruguayans. South Korea pressed from the opening whistle and was quicker.

However, in a game with few clear scoring chances, Uruguay had the best chance, with Diego Godin hitting the post in the 43rd minute and Federico Valverde hitting the post in the 89th minute.

Uruguay will next face Portugal in Group h, while South Korea will face Ghana.
