Souk antique shop robbed of at least $100,000 in gold and silver

The owner of Reynolds Antiques and Collectibles in Sooke received the worst news Thursday morning. That’s when they discover that the store has been broken into and robbed overnight.

Luke Reynolds claims that someone broke into the next room, broke down the wall to gain access to the store, and stole at least $100,000 worth of gold and jewelry.

“We were getting ready for Christmas, so we had a lot of jewelry here, but now it’s all gone,” Reynolds said. “They took all our silver and gold, but nothing more. It’s just heartbreaking.

Reynolds said anyone who broke into the business knew what they were doing, at least from what he’s seen so far.

He apparently tried to force open the front and back doors of the store before breaking into the next room, kicking a hole just large enough for a person to fit into the wall separating the room from the main showroom.

The Sooke RCMP confirmed it was investigating the incident.

“We’re a mom and pop organization. I built this business with my family. I’ve lived in the souk my whole life. So if people in the souk did this, it would be horrible.” ” said Reynolds.

As a result of the robbery, Reynolds and his family already have community support and are hoping that whoever committed the crime will return the items. Insurance will likely cover it, but it won’t be enough to fully recover, he said.

Reynolds’ inventory is down significantly, but we remain optimistic about sales leading up to the holiday season. He said the store will continue to operate during normal hours while investigations and repairs are carried out.

Repairs are already underway on Thursday afternoon, and enhanced security measures will be installed.
