SIU investigation after a man was shot dead while interacting with police at Bobcaygeon

Ontario police guard dogs are investigating a shooting that killed a man during a conversation with police at Bobcaygeon Thursday morning.

According to a special investigation unit, officials of the Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Police Department went to a house near Highway 49 and Highway 47 for a theft investigation after 10 am.

When the police arrived, they encountered a man with a firearm, SIU said.

“There was interaction and police fired firearms before withdrawing,” SIU said in a news release.

The man was declared dead on the scene.

SIU assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to the case and nominated one eligible officer and three witness officers.

The agency requires the person who has the information to contact the principal investigator.

SIU is required to investigate whenever police are involved in death, serious injury, allegations of sexual assault, or the launch of firearms at humans.
