Alberta’s new Department of Parks to focus on tourism and opening new campgrounds
Edmonton-Alberta’s new Minister for Forests, Parks and Tourism says it will focus on ensuring the state’s parks are more accessible to people.
Todd Loewen has received a power of attorney from Prime Minister Daniel Smith.
The letter focuses on the development of tourism in the local park system.
In it, Smith directs Rowen to develop camping, recreational, and tourism opportunities on rural land.
Rowen is expected to accelerate the approval of permits and licenses, establish tourism and hospitality immigration flows, and improve tourism infrastructure in high-traffic areas.
She also tells ministers to develop ways to manage local forests and grasslands to store carbon.
The two-page letter contains one mention of the need to be environmentally responsible.
