Boughner has been promoted from assistant coach to top job in the middle of the 2019-20 season on behalf of Peter DeBoer. In 175 games over part of three seasons, the shark posted an overall record of 67-85-23 under Boughner and missed the playoffs each year.
Sharks have spent most of their off-season extensively investigating the general manager after Doug Wilson resigned to focus on health after 19 years of work.
