“Sex Education” star Chuti Gatuwa becomes the first black Doctor Who-nationwide

Ncuti Gatwa steals the cloak from Jodie Whittaker in “Doctor Who” released Sunday, ending speculation about the next replay of the iconic Time Lord.

“Sometimes talent goes through the door, it’s so bright, bold and wonderful, I just turn back in awe and thank my lucky star,” showrunner Russell T. Davis said. Said in the release of. “Ncuti surprised us, caught Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds.”

Gatowa, whose first name is pronounced “SHOO-tee,” is now starring in Netflix’s high school comedy drama “Sex Education,” as Eric Efion, an openly gay but highly religious family.

Whitaker became the thirteenth doctor when he took over from Peter Capaldi in 2017, and was the first woman to play an extraterrestrial time lord flying around the central galaxy. The final episode of her “Doctor Who” will air later this year.

The first run of “Doctor Who” spanned 1963-1989. Since the show’s resurrection in 2005, the doctor has been played by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith, in addition to Capaldi and Whittaker. Other stars like Karen Gillan and Billie Piper have made a name for themselves as Doctor’s “companion” at the show.

“This role and show is of great significance to many people around the world, including myself. Each and every one of my incredibly talented predecessors pays close attention to their unique responsibilities and privileges. I’ve paid for it. I’ll do my best to do the same, “said the release, a deep honor for his emotions,” beyond excitement and, of course, a little scary. I quoted Gatuwa, who said, “I’m thinking of a mix.”

In addition to seeing the start of Gatuwa’s tenure, next year also shows that Davis has returned to “Doctor Who” after more than a decade of absence.

“Russell T. Davies is almost as symbolic as the doctor himself, and being able to work with him is a dream come true,” Gatowa said.
