Manitoba throne speech outlines agenda for next year’s Conservative government

WINNIPEG – The Manitoba legislature is set to deliver a throne address today outlining the agenda for next year’s Progressive Conservative government.

It will be read by Manitoba’s newly appointed Lieutenant Governor Anita Neville.

Prime Minister Heather Stefansson said the government plans to focus on affordability, economic growth, health care and reducing crime.

Before the fall break, the government passed several bills. These included Manitoba setting a debt reduction target for his Hydro and capping annual rate increases.

The government says it will financially stabilize public works projects, but the opposition New Democratic Party argues that it will lead to higher interest rates than necessary.

It also gives the Cabinet new powers to set the parameters of public hearings held by state regulators.

“Over the past year, we’ve invested in affordability, combated crime, promoted settlements, reduced wait times for healthcare, and seen record levels of growth in the state,” Stephen said. Song said in a statement announcing the date last month.

“As we move forward, we will also invest in education, childcare, and initiatives to build stronger communities. Together, we can build a better Manitoba for all.”
