And their mission to save all 13 is made even more difficult by the unstoppable rain and high water levels that prevent the boys from swimming out of the cave. The only way divers could safely take the boys away was to calm them down and swim one by one in the cave with their bodies. As one of the men says, “It’s insane. It’s unethical. It’s illegal.”

But in the end, that was their only choice. One diver of the Naval Special Warfare Command died during rescue and another died of a blood infection more than a year later, but all 13 boys were rescued 18 days after they first entered the cave. I was killed.
