Glow, a holiday show with a million lights, returns to the Edmonton Expo Center on December 1st. It has the same feeling of surprise and surprise as a brand new show.

For months, the staff at Shadow Vista Productions, who produce Glow in Edmonton, have been working to put together a massive holiday festival, complete with vendors and musical performers.

“I think people are craving the spirit of Christmas,” said Shannon Van Norman. People love new shows and entertainment, and we try to get people in the spirit of Christmas when they come to Glow.”

The show keeps guests coming back every year with new themes and attractions. It’s a fairytale Christmas this year, with fairies mingling and flitting throughout the show, and a castle spewing dry ice fog at one end of the exhibit.

“The fairy tale theme will be my favorite theme by far,” says Van Norman.

Alongside the new themes, Van Norman says he has many special nights planned to change things up and offer new experiences. It takes place on the 7th of December, with Under the Sea scheduled for the 14th of December.

Glow runs for a month, but it’s a year-round effort to put the show together. Van Norman says her job spends most of the year gathering feedback, researching themes, and working on purchases in the spring months after the previous year’s show wraps up. .

Kevin Kindrachuk is one of dozens of workers helping prepare for the show this year. He’s been with Glow since 2018, when a part-time job application turned into an annual festival gig. After his 32-year correction with the federal government, Kindrachuk is retired and this is the perfect part-time job.

Kindrachuk helps move over one million LED lights from storage to the Expo Center in nearly a dozen 53-foot trailers. A crew of up to 20 people help set up across his 100,000 square feet of floor space. This will take a full week before opening night on December 1st.

It’s a tradition of the Christmas season that Kindrachuk has come to enjoy, and not just lugging around heavy equipment.

“I enjoy the holiday season, which adds to everything. Besides doing the set-up and tear-down, I have also been one of the show’s train drivers for the past few years,” said Kindrachuk. increase. “Working on the train, I see a lot of happy faces, a lot of young and old children.”

Glow isn’t just about lights and sounds. They host local artisans to sell their wares each year, with more than 60 lined up to offer guests a little holiday shopping.
