Scotiabank suspends hockey Canada sponsorship in protest of alleged sexual assault-nationwide

Scotiabank says it has suspended Hockey Canada’s sponsorship in the midst of a big fire about how the sports governing body handled a recent investigation into allegations of sexual assault.
Long-time sponsors say the suspension will continue until banks are confident that the right steps will be taken to improve the culture within the sport.
This development took place last week after the federal government frozen public funds for national sports organizations in response to sexual assault and out-of-court settlements.
Hockey Canada quietly settled the case last month after a woman claimed to have been attacked by a member of the World Junior Hockey Team, who won the gold medal in 2018, at a gala and golf event in London, Ontario.
Neither claim has been proved in court.
Hockey Canada executives were burned by lawmakers on Parliamentary Hill last week during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.
