What is the Toronto Area Board of Education planning if Ontario’s education workers strike again?

The Ontario Board of Education has plans for the second time this month, with education officials across the province preparing to strike Monday if a new deal is not reached with the government.

After the Department of Education’s latest proposals, which include a $1 an hour pay increase each year, talks with the state have again “broken down.” The Union of Civil Servants of Canada (CUPE) said both sides had agreed to a 3.5% annual salary increase.

But the union wants the Ford government to guarantee higher staff numbers and early childhood educators in all kindergarten classes.

On Wednesday, CUPE announced it would also go on strike on Monday if a new deal is not reached in advance.

Here’s how major school boards across GTA are reacting to the news.

Toronto District School Board

The TDSB, the state’s largest school board, said it would close from Monday if there was a strike next week.

“We hope that an agreement will be reached and that students and staff will be able to go to school and work on Mondays, but in the event of this strike, all TDSB schools will be closed for in-person learning for all students.” said TDSB late. Wednesday afternoon release.

The PDSB said it will be closed if education officials go on strike and students will participate in distance learning on Monday.

About 2,500 full-time and temporary workers will be absent if they retire, according to the school board.
