Ronnie Hawkins, a rockabilly artist from the southern United States who emigrated to Canada and became the godfather of a generation of influential rock musicians, died at the age of 87.
His wife Wanda Canadian press Hawkins died on Sunday morning after a long illness.
Hawkins was known for his cheerful personality and enthusiastic stage presence.

The singers “Who Do You Love?”, “Ruby Baby” and “Mary Lou” have brought many artists under the wings of his backing band Hawks. Some of them have become their own celebrities.
Five members, including Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson, later formed The Band.
Hawkins has won several nicknames over the years, including Dynamo, Sir Ronnie, Rompin Ronnie, and Hawk.
