Russian President Vladimir Putin’s escalation of war in Ukraine shows he is losing control.
“President Putin was wrong.
Ukraine’s seven-month battle against Russian aggression is a major theme at global rallies, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the global rally by video on Wednesday.
Zelensky claimed that his country would win in repelling Russian attacks and driving out its troops.
It came just hours after Putin announced the mobilization of reserve forces in Europe’s biggest military conflict since World War II.
Mr Zelensky told the United Nations that the decision suggests that Putin is not serious about negotiating an end to the conflict.
Trudeau said the recent move suggests Putin knows things aren’t going his way.
“He must, first of all, move towards at least partial conscription in Russia. This is one step closer to admitting to the Russians that he does not want to admit. Things are going as he planned. It’s an example of not moving forward,” Trudeau said.
Prime Minister Trudeau said Canada will continue to tighten sanctions related to Russia’s aggression and send military aid to Ukraine. He said Canada has been involved in training Ukrainian forces for years and that Ukraine has requested ammunition.
He also said Canada will continue to contribute to humanitarian aid, including measures to respond to the global food crisis caused by the invasion.
“We continue to uphold principles that are so important to Canadians and people around the world, and have absolute steadfastness and solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and we encourage our nations, especially those in the Global South. , will continue to exist there. They are also facing a difficult time against Russia,” he said.
In Ottawa on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Russia’s aggression may be at a “tipping point” and that now is the time to “double our support” to Ukraine.
