Report: Lakers Add Former NBA Great O’Neill, Pippen’s Son After Draft

Shaquille O’Neal and Scottie Pippen weren’t NBA teammates, but their children may be because the Los Angeles Lakers signed different contracts as free agents after the NBA Draft.

Shareef O’Neal, Shakir’s son, reportedly agreed to play in the NBA Summer League with the Lakers starting July 7-17 in Las Vegas.

O’Neill originally participated in UCLA and played 13 games during the 2019-20 season, averaging 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds. He then followed in the footsteps of his father to transfer to LSU, but his foot injury limited him to 24 games with an average of 2.9 points in two seasons and 2.1 rebounds per game from the bench.

Scotty’s son, Scotty Pippen Jr., reportedly agreed to a two-way contract with the Lakers after the draft.

Vanderbild’s guard was a two-time All-SEC player, averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 assists and 1.6 steals in three seasons, including 41.4% and 3 to 34.3% shots from the field.

Pippen wasn’t expected to be drafted because of his size and athletic ability, but there are playmaking and shotmaking to make up for it.
