That’s what Henry’s son, Wes Brown, said when he saw people gathering Thursday night to celebrate his father’s life.

Henry Brown Elementary School held an open house and memorial service on Thursday evening in honor of the life of Henry Brown, for whom the school is named.

Brown has worked and contributed to Regina’s public schools for over 60 years. In 1987, after Brown retired, Henry His Brown School opened.

“This school has been great for my dad over the years and he always enjoys coming and being a part of it.

“He was a fun-loving guy. He loved the outdoors, he loved teaching, and he was a great family member.”

After retiring, Brown remained connected to the school and its students. He regularly attended rallies, attended award ceremonies, and kept in touch with his teachers and students.

“He was a very kind and caring person,” said Henry Brown student Liam Deroux. “He spent a lot of time at meetings trying to teach us how to be better people.”

Students and parents from across the community came together to honor Brown and share his memories.

“I love it so much that I’m back in the area. I’m so happy my kids are here,” said Randy Horvath, with tears in his eyes.

After teaching mathematics at Tom College Eight, Brown was Vice Principal at Massey and Westmore. He was then appointed principal of Massey He School and Cochrane High School. Later in his career, he was promoted to assistant superintendent and then superintendent.

On Monday, Principal Rhonda House heard of Brown’s passing and wanted to honor him at an elementary school open house.

“I know a lot of parents who are coming tonight with their children. They have a few things for the family, remember him,” she said.

Parents, teachers and students all want Brown’s legacy to continue for years to come.

“His slogan is ‘do the best you can’ and that’s the message that everyone remembers. ‘Do your best’ is the slogan we should all follow,” House said.
