The University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ vibrant Vanier Cup run ended in another heartbreaking loss.

Laval Rouge et Or lifted the Cup on Saturday after a 30-24 win in London, Ontario. Vanier won his cup last year as the Huskies, who lost 27-21 to the Westerns, had a three-out drive in his final 30 seconds, with Raval running out of time.

Saskatchewan’s Vanier Cup losing streak is the sixth in a row since winning the 1998 National Collegiate Football Championship.
The teams were tied 17-17 at half-time, with Raval leading 27-17 midway through the fourth quarter. Daniel Wiebe’s 3-yard touchdown catch closed the gap to 27-24 with 4:58 left.
Laval’s Vincent Blanchard kicked a 25-yard field goal at 1:56, and the two Huskies drives that followed failed to score the game-winning touchdown. Their first drive was a gamble on third down that put him one yard short.

The Huskies scored first-half touchdowns from Everett Iverson (3-yard reception) and Rhett Bavra (3-yard reception) and a 20-yard field goal from David Solley.
Laval countered with a 3-yard touchdown run from Karenga Muganda, 15-, 28-, and 49-yard field goals from Blanchard, and a kickoff single.
Rouge et Or had a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter after a 10-yard Blanchard field goal and a 1-yard touchdown catch from David Dallaire.
This is Raval’s 11th Vanier Cup title and first since 2018.
