Penguin’s Chris Letang is sick Tuesday and faces off against Hurricanes

Pittsburgh Penguins star defenseman Chris Letang was out of the lineup due to illness Tuesday night in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Letang is averaging a team-leading 23:54 minutes per game this season, his 17th for the club and 12 points (1 goal, 11 assists) in 21 appearances.

A third-round (63rd overall) draft from Pittsburgh in 2005, the 35-year-old Montreal native signed a six-year, $36.6 million contract extension in July.

The Penguins entered Tuesday’s contest in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with an 11-8-3 record.
