ANAHEIM — The Ottawa Senator has never been more grateful for Thanksgiving.

The Senator got off the mat and began his road to fame with a 5-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks at the American Thanksgiving matinee at the Honda Center.
Led by a solid effort from goalkeeper Cam Talbot, the Senators dominated the Ducks in every category. Mathieu Joseph and Derrick Brassard had three-point shots, while Brady Tkachuk, Tim Statzl and Artem Zub also scored against Anaheim goalkeeper Anthony Strauss.

Max Jones defeated a shutout bid by Talbot with 2:50 left in the third period.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak, including the two that kick off the Senators’ current road trip. 5-1 in San Jose on Monday and 4-1 in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The effort was better against the Golden Knights, but the results weren’t there.

It was a battle between two teams that are 13 points below ground in the National Hockey League overall standings. Duck is in the rebuilding phase, but the Senator should be better than this, and it will require efforts like this.
They entered this game with a record of 2-10-1 in their last 13 games, but left town with their first victory in Anaheim since January 9, 2019.
Talbot made his third consecutive start at the net. Anton Forsberg is out with an unspecified lower body injury.
Talbot also entered the game with a career record of 14-7-2 against the Ducks and 2.07 goals against the average.
He made an important stop early in Friday’s game to keep the Ducks at bay and get the offensive support he needed.

The Senators took a four-goal lead in the third period and Joseph scored on a power play at 6:49 to make it 5-0.
Zub, the second of the season to shoot from the top of the slot area, beat Straats with 5:04 left in the second period to take a 4-0 lead.
It was also a power play for Stutzle’s eighth of the season, giving the club a 3–0 advantage at 10:29 on the second. He took the pass and launched a blast by Stolarz.
The Senators also scored twice in the first period.
Winger Matthew Joseph showed great patience in setting up Blassade for the third time of the season at 18:19. Brassard received his pass from Joseph Backdoor and on the blockers side Strals fired the puck.
Tkachuk’s third power play goal of the season opened the scoring. He took a perfect feed in the slot from Drake his bazaarson and beat the Straz on his fifth shot of the contest. The Senators need it because the Ducks pushed hard and forced Talbot to make some big stops.
The Senators will wrap up this trip on Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings.
