Elizabeth Holmes sentenced to 11 years in prison while pregnant with second child

Disgraced CEO Elizabeth Holmes, who is now pregnant with her second child, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after being found guilty of fraud related to the influence of blood collection company Theranos.

Holmes, who plans to appeal, must appear in court on April 27, 2023. It also requires three years of probation after his release.

“Failure is normal, but failure due to fraud is not OK,” U.S. District Court Judge Edward Davila said in Friday’s ruling.

An emotional Holmes spoke before the judge before she was sentenced. According to the reporter in court. “I stand before you in charge of Theranos. It was my life’s work.”

“I am devastated by my failure. I let them down and I feel deep pain for what people have gone through,” she continued. I’m sorry everyone…I regret failing every cell in my body.”

Additionally, her ex-boyfriend, Sunny Balwani, former president and COO of Theranos, was also found guilty of all 12 criminal fraud charges brought against him.

Leading up to her sentencing, Holmes demanded a new trial, claiming that new evidence had come to light over the summer. and expressed his regret that he had taken part against her in court.

On Friday, the probation officer said before the judge gave his sentence Recommendation She spent only nine years in federal prison while prosecutors sought a 15-year sentence.

Balwani is next, still awaiting sentencing and also facing up to 20 years in prison. He is scheduled to return to court in his December.
