WINNIPEG – The organization tasked with overseeing healthcare in Winnipeg has launched an online tool in hopes of reducing wait times in the city’s emergency rooms.
The Winnipeg Community Health Department now provides real-time wait information at participating walk-in clinics, emergency departments and urgent care centers.
Wait times have spiked this season as the state deals with COVID-19, seasonal flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Some doctors at health officials say the new tool won’t solve long wait times at hospitals, but it will help individuals with less urgent needs get treatment more quickly.
They say staff shortages in all areas of the health system continue to be a major cause of long wait times.
Doctors Manitoba, which represents doctors and medical students, said the state’s doctor shortage has reached an all-time high.
