On Tuesday, A24 released the first trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming movie The Whale, starring TIFF Best Actor winner Brendan Fraser.

This movie tells the story of a reclusive English teacher who weighs 600 pounds. His life changes when he tries to reunite with his estranged teenage daughter, played by Sadie Sink.
“Have you ever felt like you can’t help but care?” Fraser’s character asks in the trailer. “People are great.”
A 1-minute trailer also gives a glimpse of footage from the film. This includes how Fraser transforms into a role.

The film, which also stars Hong Chau, Samantha Morton, and Ty Simpkins, is based on Samuel D. Hunter’s 2012 play of the same name.
“The Whale” opens in theaters on December 9th.
