YELLOWKNIFE – The Northwest Territories government says it will begin testing blood samples for the presence of antibodies developed in response to COVID-19.
Territory says testing of discarded, anonymous blood samples taken after April 1 will help it better understand how COVID-19 has affected its population.
This study is able to distinguish between antibodies generated by vaccination or infection.
The territory stopped tracking COVID-19 infections in its residents when it lifted all public health measures in April.
We continue to document the serious consequences of COVID-19, but that information is not available to the public.
The territorial government said there were 35 hospitalizations, four intensive care unit admissions and four deaths related to COVID-19 between April and August.
This report by the Canadian Press was first published on September 28, 2022.
