North Okanagan team advances to BC Volleyball finals

A year ago, the Seaton Sonics held a last-minute fundraiser to participate in the BC Senior Girls AAA Volleyball Championship in Vancouver. The highway was closed due to severe flooding in November 2021.

Seaton reached the championship game, falling fifth, to Victoria’s Mount Douglas Rams.

This year, the Sonics will travel south on Route 97 for 15-20 minutes.

The six-game winning Okanagan Champion is the state’s No. 2 seed in a 16-team squad that begins Thursday, Dec. 1 at Lake Country’s George Elliott Secondary. Seaton will have three games on opening day starting at 10:30 a.m. against Vancouver’s Crofton House Falcons.

The Sonics will stay on Court 2 to face Prince George’s College Heights Cougars at 11:45am before wrapping up the qualifying round against Vancouver’s Little Flower Academy Angels at 3:30pm. That game will take place at his HS Glenda Middle School in Lake Country.

Host George Elliott Coyotes will play three games in his gym on Thursday at 1pm against the RA McMath Wildcats of Richmond.

The Okanagan’s No. 3 seed, the Coyotes, will face Prince George’s Park Condors at 3:30 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, December 3rd at 5:45pm.

BCAA Girls

Coldstream’s Okanagan champions, the Calamarca Lakers, will face Vancouver’s Notre Dame jugglers in Thursday’s opener at Merritt.Game time is 12:10

The Lakers will also face the Langley Fundamental Titans (2:30 p.m.) and the Mulgrave Titans of West Vancouver at 4:50 p.m. on Opening Day.

Vernon’s Fulton Maroons, who lost to Cal in the Okanagan final, will take on the West Point Gray Academy Wolves in Vancouver on Thursday at 12:10 pm in a 16-team line-up. The Maroons will also face Brentwood College of Mill Bay on Vancouver Island at 2:30pm and the Fernie Falcons at 3:40pm.

The gold medal match will take place on Saturday at 4:30pm

BC Boys A

The Vernon Christian School Royals will face Maple Ridge Christian Hornets, Victoria’s Brooks Westshore Griffons and Okanagan rivals Kamloops’ St. Ann’s Crusaders in three qualifying rounds in Duncan, Vancouver Island on Thursday. .

The Royals will play Maple Ridge at 11:30 am, the Griffons at 2:00 pm, and St. Ann’s at 4:30 pm to wrap up day one.

Championship game is set for Saturday at 7:15pm
