In Vernon, there have been two incidents of burns on men in the last nine months, but the RCMP said they were not involved.
Police are conducting an investigation after a man was found with severe burns in downtown Vernon on Sunday afternoon.
The incident follows an incident in which a man in his 50s was found with severe burns on 25th and 32nd streets on December 20, 2021. There was no criminality in last year’s incident.
However, the RCMP has yet to identify the cause of the recent cases.
Police were called to the 2800 block on 35th Street shortly before 2:00 pm on September 18, and BC Emergency Medical Services and Vernon Fire and Rescue Services responded to assist the man.
A 41-year-old man suffered severe burns all over his body. He was taken to hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.
“The cause of the man’s burns and the circumstances leading to his injuries have not yet been determined,” Konst said. Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said:
“We are seeking information from the public to help us move forward with our investigation. Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident or has any suspicions will be asked to come forward and contact police.” added Tereschi.
“We are also asking local businesses and residents with video surveillance to review it and report anything suspicious.”
Anyone with information or footage related to the investigation that has not yet been told to police is asked to call 250-545-7171 and cite file number 2022-16761.
