A larger and better-stocked Walmart opened Thursday at Edmonton’s Kingsway Mall, replacing the recently closed Westmount Mall.

Occupying a space once hosted by Sears, the new Walmart location is a grocery “supercenter” and spans 149,000 square feet. This is more than a third larger than his previous site, the retailer said in a news release.

In addition to produce, a variety of meats and a bakery, the company will have an international section with food from the Middle East, India, Portugal and Italy at its Kingsway location, its first new Alberta store since 2015. said.

The new store also supports pickup and delivery services, allowing in-store customers access to UPS stores and Ultracuts locations within the space.

The new supercenter employs about 220 associates, including 120 relocated from its Westmount Mall location, according to the Canadian division of the Arkansas-based company.
A post on Walmart Canada’s Facebook page showed that its Westmount Mall location closed Wednesday for a clearance sale.
Susan Lovie, director and general manager of Kingsway Mall, welcomed the retailer, saying she was very excited to open.
“This Walmart will be an important addition to the region and will open a new chapter in Kingsway’s development,” Lovie said in a release.
The new Walmart Supercenter is open daily from 8am to 10pm.
