Goalkeeper Katie Meyer’s family sues Stanford University for wrongful death

“The Stanford community continues to mourn Katie’s tragic loss and sympathize with her family for the unimaginable pain caused by Katie’s death,” the university said Nov. 28 at E. ! news. “However, I strongly disagree with the claim that the university was responsible for her death.”

The university said it contacted Meyer about her case prior to Feb. 28 and provided her with a phone number for “immediate support” that is always available. Stanford also said she responded to Mayer an hour after responding to her disciplinary letter.

Additionally, Meyer’s family said they are pursuing a lawsuit to “call for systemic changes to improve the safety and support of Stanford students.”

“Katie Meyer loved being a student-athlete at Stanford University with all her heart,” the family said in a November 23 statement. We have no choice but to pursue the case to achieve justice for Katie and protect future students.”
