Neil Gaiman reveals the secrets behind the long process of adapting the ‘Sandman’ comic for Hollywood.
In a new episode of Happy Sad Confuse, the creator sat down with Josh Horowitz to discuss the highly anticipated Sandman series for Netflix.
Gaiman created comics in the late 80’s and 90’s that have become cult classics among comics fans. Talk of adapting the series into a movie has been around for just as long.

In fact, one of the adaptation attempts envisioned Michael Jackson as the lead.

“By 1996, I was taken to Warners, where the then-president of Warner Bros. sat me down and the day before Michael Jackson called me and asked if I could star as Morpheus in The Sandman. ’ said Gaiman shared. “I mean, there was a lot of interest in this, and they knew it was her one of the crown jewels. Another name tossed into the casting hat was Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 2016.
It wasn’t until Netflix’s The Sandman that the comic was finally recruited into a series with Tom Sturridge in the role of Morpheus. was one of

As for why he sold the casting team on the actor’s performance, he said it all had to do with his voice.
“I think it was mostly voice,” Gaiman said. I was right.”
“The Sandman” is now streaming on Netflix.
