NB’s mother wants change after police misrepresented her son dead

DIEPP, N.B. – A New Brunswick mother woke up Tuesday morning to news from the RCMP that her son had died, but hours later learned the police had made a mistake.

Donna Price said in an interview that police came to her house early in the morning when her 29-year-old son was found dead in Moncton, North Carolina.

She says she made heartbreaking calls to his father, his brother, and elderly parents to share the devastating news.

But later that afternoon, someone went to retrieve his son’s belongings and found him alive and well at home, Price said.

Price says his son has dealt with homelessness and mental health issues, and believes the police’s disregard for people experiencing these issues contributed to the RCMP’s mistakes.

She plans to file a lawsuit against the military to ensure that police follow proper procedures to identify the deceased and notify their families, whatever their living circumstances.
