A “nature bus” stops in Chilliwack and Abbotsford to collect letters calling on world leaders to halt and reverse the loss of nature.

NatureBus will stop at Great Blue Heron Sanctuary in Chilliwack and Fraser Valley University in Abbotsford on November 30 as part of a Nature Canada bus tour.

People are being asked to write conscious letters to protect local biodiversity. The letter will then be delivered to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at NatureCOP, the UN conference on biodiversity in Montreal.

Camille Coray, Executive Director of the Great Blue Heron Sanctuary, said: “We are gathering messages from Canadians across the country calling on the world leaders at this conference to take action at NatureCOP to end the loss of nature once and for all.”

The goal is to collect 250 letters in Chilliwack alone by November 30th.

“Before and on the day of the event, we would like you to write your thoughts on why it is worth protecting Canada’s nature and species, and why we need a firm framework to stop and reverse biodiversity loss. We invite individuals to submit.” Nature Canada press release.

The Chilliwack event is November 30th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at the Great Blue Heron Sanctuary. The Abbotsford stop is UFV on the same day from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

“The planet faces the dual threat of climate change and biodiversity loss,” said Graham Sole, executive director of Nature Canada. “NatureCOP in Montreal could be the moment we turn things around for nature. Canada unexpectedly found themselves in the lead.”

NatureCOP, the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, will be held in Montreal from December 7-19. With the world’s eyes focused on Montreal, Canadians have a chance to show how committed they are to conservation. Nature.
