Canadian Artic is increasing security with a visit from NATO Secretary General

This week, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Prime Minster Justin Trudeau. The trip is a three-day stay from August 24th to the 26th in the Artic with a jammed pack schedule.

The group adventured to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, to spend time with the community there. They also went to see the North Warning system and the Aero-space defense command. In addition, they spent time in the research station that focuses on science and technology development. The group will visit the Armed Forced air base on their last day.

The main reason for the visit was to examine the effects of climate change and warming temperatures and what it might mean for security in the Arctic.

Canada had shown their disinterest in NATO and did not want to threaten Russia. However, the leaders are looking into upping security with the continuing war. The defense spending of Canada is a topic that will be brought up in the meeting on Friday between Stoltenberg and Trudeau.

Though it is not explicit, the meeting in the Artic does send a message on increasing military strength and security against any threats.
