Music legends to fill Gary Anderson Community Center for new concert series
Local country music legend Larry Krause said it was hard for musicians and entertainers to recover after months of lockdown due to COVID-19, but at the latest Timberline Music Productions concert series I hope things change.
Krause performed a series of live concerts at the Gary Anderson Community Center in Christopher Lake. He said it was important for musicians to have venues to perform, as many venues have been slow to reopen.
“I’m really happy to see this going forward, and I’m also really happy with the capabilities of the performers we have,” Krause said.
“There’s been a real buzz around the lake about this. We know there are already quite a few advance tickets sold for the first concert, so it probably looks like the time has come.
Jeffrey Straker, Justin LaBlash, Jake Verdlund and Starjon River Boys are among the musicians taking the stage over the next five months. Krause said he is looking forward to seeing everyone back on stage after a difficult two years.
“A lot of the places we go to, a lot of the opportunities to go to small community halls as musicians, and things like that are basically drying up, and it takes quite a while to open up some of those opportunities. again,” he explained. “I was talking to the people here at the Gary Anderson Community Center and when I first approached them about a potential idea, they jumped at it right away. They were very positive. .”
While Krause hopes to provide opportunities for musicians to perform, it also wants to provide additional recreational opportunities for Lakeland area residents during the winter months. He has seen a lot of tourism and entertainment type activities during the summer months, but said there is a lack of events for locals who live in the area all year round.
All performances are on Thursday nights, a day specially chosen by Krause to be one of the least busy days on the calendar.
“Every weekend there is a hockey tournament with moms, dads, grandpas and grandmas, and on Thursdays everyone clicks on the channel,” he said. “What are we going to do if Yellowstone isn’t on?”
Planning for the event began in May, but according to Kraise, the idea of cramming musical performances into small community halls is a long-standing tradition in the countryside. He is confident that this series of concerts will live up to the hype.
The event doubles as a fundraiser for the Gary Anderson Community Center. Krauss said the funds will be used for day-to-day operations.
