Manitoba mother-child kidnapping suspect arrested in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – A 2-year-old daughter has been arrested in a police investigation into the alleged kidnapping of a Manitoba woman.

According to the RCMP, 62-year-old Michael Stephen Klimchuk was safely arrested by Winnipeg police on Sunday morning and is currently in RCMP custody at Portage La Prairie.

The Mounties said the stranger allegedly pretended to need help on the side of the road when the woman was driving with her child near Portage La Prairie late Friday afternoon. He said he stopped the car to help the family, but was then ordered to drive to Winnipeg.
