A selection committee tasked with finding a new Montreal police chief has selected Longueuil police chief Fadi Duggar, the office of Mayor Valerie Plante confirmed Wednesday.

The mayor’s office will hold a press conference Thursday afternoon, at which Plante and members of her administration are expected to comment on the selection committee’s recommendation to appoint Duggar as Montreal police chief. includes former Montreal Police Chief Martin Prud’homme, who was recently appointed deputy city administrator for safety.

The city’s executive committee, the Montreal City Council, and the Island Aggregation Council must vote on the nomination of the police chief. Voting he will be done by December 22nd. Prime Minister François Legault’s Cabinet must also approve this choice. A decision he is due in January.
Duggar enlisted in February 2017 as Longueuil Police Chief. Prior to that, he served with the Montreal Police Department for 23 years, four of which he was Deputy Commissioner.

He holds a master’s degree in business administration from McGill University.
A year ago, Longueuil announced that Duggar’s term would extend the term of the city’s police chief by eight years.
