Ukraine promises ‘invincible center’ to protect people from harsh winters – National

The Ukrainian government promised to create shelters to provide heat and water, encouraged its citizens to conserve energy as a harsh winter loomed amidst Russia’s relentless strike, and its power structure was tattered.

In his nightly video address on Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that special “invincible centers” would be set up throughout Ukraine that would provide electricity, heat, water, internet, mobile phone connections and pharmacies free of charge.

Russian attacks have caused a long-term loss of power for up to 10 million consumers at a time. Ukraine’s state-owned power grid operator said on Tuesday the damage was extensive.

“In the event of another major Russian strike and it is clear that power will not be restored for hours, the ‘Invincible Center’ will resume operations on all major services,” Zelensky said.

A senior U.S. Treasury official said the G7 nations will soon announce price caps, possibly adjusting levels several times a year.
