Waterloo school closed due to police investigation after teen was stabbed in area
Waterloo Local Police say they are investigating outside a Waterloo school after a teenager was stabbed overnight.
Police said on Twitter that a stabbing occurred near Edna Stabler Public School on Vernay Drive.
They say the teenager was taken to an out-of-area hospital to deal with his serious injuries.
The Waterloo Area School Board said schools and the Edna Stabler YMCA Child Care Center were closed for the day.
“Due to the police presence and due diligence in our school, we have decided to close the school for today’s learning,” the board said in a release.
“We are working closely with the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and will provide families with updates as they become available.”
The board said student learning will continue online on Wednesday if possible.
