Kenya’s Antonina Kwanbai wins TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2:23:22
Antonina KwanbaiThe 30-year-old Kenyan won Sunday’s TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2:23:22. This was her personal best and she raced in Toronto for the first time after passing all the leaders late in the race.
Defending champion and course record holder Magdalene Masai The Kenyan athlete was estimated to have dropped out of podium contention before taking the lead in the final 10K of Sunday’s TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon. But eventually Masai ran out of gas and gave up the lead with less than 5km to go, eventually taking the rest of the podium.Kenyan Ruth Chebitok 2 hours, 23 minutes and 58 seconds to come second. Gelete Burka Ethiopia was third in 2:24:31. (Burka set a Canadian soil record with his 2018 Ottawa marathon win, but was beaten by Masai in 2019. Burka wanted to run Ottawa again this year, but , there was a passport problem.)
Kwanbai’s previous PR was 2:24:20 at the 2021 Siena Marathon.
Maasai Husband, Jake Robertson Originally from New Zealand, I ran the Amsterdam Marathon early on Sunday. The couple has a one-year-old child (also named Jake). This is Maasai’s first marathon since giving birth last year.
The men’s division won Ifnirin Adan of Ethiopia.
