Kelowna homeless needs rise as winter approaches – Kelowna Capital News

Winter is here. Once again the Kelowna Gospel Mission needs donations to help people fight the cold.
“Meeting basic needs is one of the first steps in getting people out of homelessness,” says Gospel Mission executive director Carmen Rempel. His one of these basic needs is warmth and shelter, and that’s where donations come in.
Every year homeless people need new winter clothing such as gloves, socks, coats and boots. The Evangelical Ministry collects and manages these donations to those in need, providing hygiene products and he freshly prepared hot meals three times a day.
Kathy, a resident of Kelowna Encampment, also said she wanted a thick, cozy blanket. Her tent was full of sleeping bags and blankets to keep her warm.
Donations are accepted at the Gospel Mission thrift store or the Shelter on Leon Avenue.
